WRITTING

introduction to writing
we need to able to articulate what is on your mind as you would have someone who will read and understand what you have written.

                        

EXTENDED WRITING
extended writing means writing an essay that is more than 250 words. in this from of writing, we have entire paragraph to introduce the essay as opposed to one sentences in paragraph writing. it give us more space to creativity in the presentation of a given idea. generally there would be five paragraph in an extended writing.
the outline that follows will give you more clearer picture.
  1. INTRODUCTION.-Opening sentences, thesis statement ( main idea that will be developed in the essay)
  2. BODY PARAGRAPH 1- topic sentences 1 ( main point of the paragraph), supporting detail, concluding sentences(optional)
  3. BODY PARAGRAPH 2-topic sentences 2, supporting details, concluding sentences
  4. BODY PARAGRAPH 3- topic sentences 3, supporting details, concluding sentences
  5. CONCLUSION- reaffirm thesis statement, summary of main points.

there are many types of essays, for example, expository argumentative, problem-solution, cause-effect and compare-contrast.

First topic is PRONOUNS, presented by Aini, Zura and Jiha.
                   PRONOUNS

DEFINITION.
       A pronoun can replace a noun or another pronoun. You use pronouns like "he," "which," "none," and "you" to make your sentences less difficult and less repetitive.
       Types of pronouns:
Ø  Personal pronouns
Ø  Demonstrative pronouns
Ø  Interrogative pronouns
Ø  Indefinite pronouns
Ø  Relative pronouns
Ø  Reflexive pronouns
Ø  Intensive pronouns

PERSONAL PRONOUNS
SUBJECTIVE  PERSONAL PRONOUNS
       To replace nouns as the subjects of sentenses
       Subject pronouns (I, you, he, she, it, we, they)
       Example:
  1. Wewill meet at the library at 3.00 p.m.
  2. You are surely the strangest child I have ever met.
  3. After many years, they returned to their homeland.
OBJECTIVE PERSONAL PRONOUNS
       To replace nouns as the objects of verbs and prepositions
       Object pronouns(me, you, her, him, it, us, them)
       Example:
  1. Lis    and Evan will meet us at the newest café in the market.
  2. Give the list to me.
  3. Christopher was surprised to see her at the horse races.

POSSESSIVE PERSONAL PRONOUNS
       To replace nouns to show possession and defines who owns a particular object or person
       Possessive pronouns (mine, yours, his, hers, its, theirs, ours)
       Example:
  1. The smallest gift is mine.
  2. Ours is the green one on the corner.
  3. His is on the kitchen counter.
DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUNS
       Demonstrative pronouns points to and identifies a noun or a pronoun.
       This” and “These” refers to things that are nearby either in space or in time.
       That” and “Those” refers to things that are farther away in space or time.
       Example:
  1. This is nice; that is the tree I want.
  2. I'll take these.
INTERROGATIVE PRONOUNS
       To replace nouns used to ask questions.
       Interrogative pronouns (who, whom, which, what, whoever, whomever, whichever, whatever)
       Example:
  1. Who wrote the novel Rockbound?
  2. Whom do you think we should invite?
  3. What do you think about this situation?






RELATIVE PRONOUNS
       To replace nouns used to link one phrase or clause to another phrase or clause.
       "who" and "whoever" to refer to the subject of a clause or sentence
       "whom" and "whomever" to refer to the objects of a verb, a verbal or a preposition.
       Example:
  1. You may invite whomever you like to the party.
  2. The crate which was left in the corridor has now been moved into the storage closet.
  3. Whoever broke the window will have to replace it.
INDEFINITE PRONOUNS
       Refers to an identifiable but not specified person or thing.
       An indefinite pronoun conveys the idea of all, any, none, or some.
       The most common indefinite pronouns are "all," "another," "any," "anybody," "anyone," "anything," "each," "everybody," "everyone," "everything," "few," "many," "nobody," "none," "one," "several," "some," "somebody," and "someone."
       Example:
  1. We donated everything we found in the attic to the woman's shelter garage sale.
  2. Although they looked everywhere for extra copies of the magazine, they found none.
  3. Anyone can do that.
REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS
       To replace nouns to replace an object which refers to the subject.
       The reflexive pronouns are "myself," "yourself," "herself," "himself," "itself," "ourselves," "yourselves," and "themselves."
       Example:
  1. Although the landlord promised to paint the apartment, we ended up doing it ourselves.
  2. Diabetics give themselves insulin shots several times a day.
  3. John cut himself.
INTENSIVE PRONOUNS
       Intensive pronouns used to emphasise its antecedent.
       Intensive pronouns are identical in form to reflexive pronouns.
       Example:
  1. The Prime Minister himself said that he would lower taxes.
  2. They themselves promised to come to the party even though they had a final exam at the same time.
  3. I did it myself.



During night class, they had learn on reading part. They had learn on how to skimming and scanning information from the text. 

SKIMMING - refers to the process of quickly identifying the main ideas within a passage to get an overall impression of its content.

SCANNING - reading skill used to find spesific information quickly

First Presentation...^^

In the next class, our classmates continued last season about symbolize their friend.
After finished, Miss Zu ask to form a group of four(4) for grammar presentation.
As usual, NABILAH n i always in the same group, EDLINA ZULFAIKHA and SITI NURBAINI they always give me support and i'm very thankful to them..

Before that, Miss Zu explain to the class about type of speech to us.Below are some example of explanation of our discussion.

new SEM new SUBJECT!!

TUESDAY:
early in the morning huhhh....
BEL260 class!!!! 
oh no!!! hahahaha.....


ENGLISH....
E.N.G.L.I.S.H, most of the students think this class as a very bored class.
But!! its depend on our lecture right?? we get MISS ZURAIDAH @ MISS ZU as our  "beloved" lecture. First thing that view from her personality are we can carry on together, easily brought to discuss, sometimes fierce but still look cute to me (^_^).


For this semester, I have 3 BEL260 classes in a week. That is on Tuesday morning ( 8.00-10.00 ) and night ( 8.00-10.00 ). Another class is on Thursday morning ( 10.00-12.00 ). 


Beginning of the class, we just introduced ourselves to each other. That time, i think Miss Zuu is just kind of fierce, but eventually she was funny women hehehe.... We listen to explanation from Miss Zu about introduction on BEL260 syllabus. BEL260 is the code for Preparotary Course For MUET. This course equips students with the skills and strategies to perform effectively in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET). It covers major aspects of reading, writing, speaking and listening.

From the course information that I get :
At the end of the course, the student should  be able to :

  1. Acquire the appropriate skills and strategies to attain a band 4, 5, or 6 in the MUET.
  2. Read and respond to academic texts.
  3. Plan and write an essay based on the requirements of the MUET.
  4. Take part in the discussion according to the requirements of the MUET.
  5. Listen and extract information.
As a part of assessment, we had to prepare 2 portfolio :

  •  Blog and Twitter 
  • Provide file for any handout that given by Miss Zu


Then, we discuss about "9 Ministry Of Higher Education ( MOHE ) Attributes"
